It's Summer All Year Round

The effects of global warming is indeed taking a toll on us. It has been well over 30 degrees celsius or above 86 degrees fahrenheit constantly for the past few days with occasionally rain.

We humans have been feeling the heat and what more the bunnies. Thank goodness they are kept in the coolest place in the house and with a fan of course!

Holland Lops should never be place outdoors in Malaysia. They just can't handle the heat that well.

I hope it rains non-stop again...

A Trip Down To Singapore

Singapore
Singapore

I bet most of you did not even realize my absence last week. I went on a trip down to Singapore. Personally, I did not enjoy it very much because I would prefer somewhere greener. Singapore as we know is a concrete jungle. Very urban that is.

I have heard a lot about Singapore especially the pet industry. I was under the impression that the pet industry is huge beyond imagination since there were comparisons made that Malaysia did not have half of what they have for our pets. I did not have the time to go on a full scale exploration but enough to help me conclude that Malaysia is not that far behind in terms of the pet industry.

It was pretty obvious that the biggest pet chain store in Singapore is the Pet Lover Center. On the busy town center along Orchard Road itself they have 3 outlets. Some of their outlets do not carry live stocks and just pet supplies which in my opinion is good for the pet industry in the long run since there is a stigmata of pet shops selling below average pets.

One of the days, I took a little time to travel down to Serangoon North Ave 2 where many "Petaling Street" style pet shops are nestled among the HDB Flats. I was told that things are cheap at this place. True enough, they do look a lot like those pet shops in Petaling Street just that the products they carry are much higher in quality.

Took me a good 30 mins to find this place

Since I was at the area, I thought of dropping by THE place to visit for Chinchilla fans. This place called House Of Chinchillas. The varieties that they have is amazing and the staff there are so friendly. Although a small shop, the number of Chinchillas in there could really give you a surprise. There is a chin at every corner.

They do have a couple of rabbits there too. I saw a lop and a couple of Netherland Dwarfs.

As I was about to leave the place, something made me walk a little more to see if there are more shops. And I found this cool shop but I forgot to take a good look at its name. Actually, the amount of goods here blocked off the shop's name. LOL

This shop has got a lot of pet accessories and I was very impressed with their range of products. Then I got quite a surprise when I turned around and saw this Tri-Color lop bunny.

After this I was well on my way back. I saw a shop filled with all sorts of parrots. I was not allowed to take photos unfortunately.

And off I went to blog somewhere else.

If you ask me what I like most in Singapore, I would definitely say NOT THE FOOD. LOL! Well, anywhere with a good pet industry is good enough for me because that is what I lookout for most of the time in a new place. I learned on my last day in Singapore that I have missed out this place called Pet Village near Suntec City. Oh well, maybe next time.

But I did not miss the must visit NIGHT SAFARI. I was there on time for their renown Night Creature show too. That's all about what I enjoyed most in Singapore.

Last but not least, just like to share that Clark is on Chubbypet Garden's Fruit Treat Delight For Small Animal.

New Feed On The Block

Finally got a 50lbs pack today exclusively through the nice peeps at www.chubbypetsgarden.com. Don't you just love the varieties that our pet rabbits get these days? I love it! And I am proud to be the first to try out this great feed. I know, 50lbs is too huge for most people. Fear not as Chubby Pets Garden will be repacking this great feed. So look out for it in major Pet Stores near you! But wait! Don't go looking for Manna Pro but instead it will be called Pro Optimum. And make sure it is the right Pro Optimum you're getting. How would you know if it is Pro Optimum? Just look out for TLR's bunnies as they will be gracing the packages!

It says SUPER PREMIUM!
It says SUPER PREMIUM!

Why Pro Optimum and not Manna Pro? That is just because they only come in 50lbs and the nice peeps at Chubby Pets Garden understands your needs. So to get great feed at affordable prices, Chubby Pets Garden came out with the ingenious idea to repack the 50lbs into smaller packets! So what you get is Manna Pro for everyone!

Feed It! That's all you need to do, no lengthy explanations...

What's In It? Yucca Extract & Manna E Probiotics!

Pelleted and NOT EXTRUDED! Retains the texture for easy feed switch!

Now let me just list down why this feed captured my attention. I don't feed just because someone else uses it but for the following reasons:

1. You can still supplement your rabbits although it is not required. Sounds good for me and for anyone who is on the go as your rabbit's stomach will not miss a beat without hay. No worries of running hay anytime!

2. It promotes complete absorption and reduces waste. We are all called to reduce waste to help with the Global Warming issue. This is one the ways TLR could contribute to helping the environment and you could do the same too!

3. It is high in dietary fiber and therefore, promotes healthy digestion

4. NO CORN. Corn has been known to cause digestive disorders in rabbits.

5. Contains YUCCA extract. Ever wonder how you can reduce the ammonia odor further especially apartment dwellers? This is the ingredient to have in your rabbit's diet! Yucca Extract also promotes palatability.

6. Manna Pro SHO contains Manna E which is a blend of probiotic enzymes that helps improve digestion further.

7. I believe that I won't feel as bad if I missed giving my rabbits their papaya tablets now with Manna Pro SHO as it contains Papaya Extract is known to help reduce incidence of hair balls.

As you can see, the manufacturer knows very well that the path to a healthy bunny is definitely through its stomach. And Manna Pro SHO is formulated just to keep your rabbit's stomach moving!

I guess you are confused now. Again, don't go looking for Manna Pro as it is known as Pro Optimum. Pro because it is infact a rabbit feed for professionals and Optimum because, it is essentially all that your pet bunny needs!

Pro Optimum will also be listed on www.chubbypetsgarden.com really soon. They are now accepting orders through inquiries too!

YOU HAVE BEEN DULY NOTIFIED!

Please remember to change your feed gradually!

Top Breeders Swear By It, TLR Recommends It, You Have Got To Use IT!

P/S: I tried it, TASTE DAMN GOOD!!! And I love what this 50 pounder did to my car - fresh aroma of good rabbit feed!

NOTE: Due to the intensity of the stiff competition in the local pet industry, please be forewarned that certain parties may spread rumours to discredit certain products. It could be as bad as someone's rabbit died eating certain pellets. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED and therefore, before it happens, please disregard any baseless negative comments.

Think Holland Lops, Think Ugly Duckling

When I wrote "Why I Love Holland Lops", I did say that Holland Lops look cuter as they age. One classic example I want to show is this buck bred by the Jordans called Jordan's Captain. Just look at the photo of him as a Junior and how far he has come to be a beautiful buck in the end. Holland Lops are definitely like boxes of chocolates. You will never know what you will get out of something that seemed to be an ugly duckling at first. Therefore, never loose hope before 6 months with your rabbit. LOL! Do also bear in mind that not all ugly ducklings turn into beautiful swans. Most remain as ugly all their lives but that does not give us reasons to believe they make lousy pets.

What caught my attention to look for Jordans' website is that, I got news that they won BOS at Nationals last weekend with Jordan's Ashton (if my assumption is correct) as Broken Siamese Sable buck. Jordan's Ashton is the buck listed next to Jordan's Captain. Absolutely stunning.

Congratulations to the Jordans for the win! Another Top Lop 2009!

11th Hour

I just done watching this fantastic documentary which in my opinion is a good sequel to its equivalent The Inconvenient Truth. If you have not watched it, make sure you catch it on HBO in the next few days.

To summarize the entire documentary, a quote kept on coming on my mind. If you have been to enough church weddings you might have heard the quote that goes "Faith, Hope & Love, and the greatest of these is LOVE". One of the last professors gave a very good summary of the entire documentary by mentioning what earth need most now is LOVE.

It simply means that we must start loving earth and not materialism. Each time we spend our money buying something, use LOVE to tap into our suffering earth to ensure we purchase what we truly need only.

As I am still very much inspired by this documentary, I thought of things to do in the rabbitry that could contribute to saving mother earth. The clearest message is to reduce, reuse and recycle. Here is the list based on these 3 headings:

1. Reduce

- neutering rabbits does help in keeping the number of rabbits on earth checked therefore, it does make some sense to neuter

- feed food that promote higher absorption so less poop produced?

2. Reuse

- I am looking at making DIY compost. And to begin with, here are some links I found:

- using old newspaper to line bottom trays

- continue making DIY toys using Hay & toilet roll

I prefer to cut a narrow strip of toilet roll and stuff the hay in
I prefer to cut a narrow strip of toilet roll and stuff the hay in

3. Recycle

- use only recycled litter materials like BREEDER CELECT

- maybe try to make pillow out of all the fur shed during molting season?

With this good documentary, US has just taken the lead in being humble to admit that they are contributing to global warming. I take my hats off them for doing so but this is not any particular country's problem. It is a global problem and that means each and everyone of us are responsible to do something about it.

I believe that leaders around the world must devise strategies. Strategies on the individual level and up to the community level at large. That means, we need strategies so we can make efforts on individual capacity as well as joint efforts by smaller communities right up to the country level and lastly, a global effort.

Let's join hands in this for our future generation.

Brain Move You OR You Move Brain?

This is a very important post for indecisive people. It is a very good post for people without brain of their own too. I hope it is going to be a good post to give brainless people what they need most, to get their brains back to where it suppose to be. Though I wonder how they loose their brains in the first place.

When the market is saturated by so many products and so many parties selling those products, everyone loses FOCUS!

Some of us know what is best for our pets and therefore, searches for places to get the best things for our pets. This truly show how much we love our pets and how well we are intuned with their needs. We may go out of our ways to just for our pets. Imagine all the inconveniences involved.

I believe the problems arise when we take the easy way out. Some of us are downright not bothered to know what our pets need. So what they do? FOLLOW BLINDLY. This is very similar to how people pick their favorites. Some people do not even know why they like a certain football team. The next time you see someone wearing the red jersey with a logo that has got a devil on it, try asking the reason he/she likes that team. I bet quite a few of them will give you the most outrageous answers. The exact reason that usually ticks me off is when he/she says, "because all my friends like it, so I like them too". Totally bullshit and utter nonsense.

In my opinion the world would be a better and challenging place if all of us have our own brains that does what they do best, THINK! We can be better without the herding mentality. For those that are not familiar with the herding mentality, just think of the buffaloes in the padi fields that are pulled by their nose rings. If you feel like one of those buffaloes, most likely you're trapped in the herding mentality. I hope you wake up and I believe you are being liberated since you're reading this.

Anyone including myself can write all sorts of recommendations. That makes it easy for anyone reading to have a good head start to research on the best recommendations that suits them. At the end of the day, each one will have to exercise their discretion before acting out on their beliefs.

What works best for me does not necessarily means it works best for EVERYONE. We all do our best to provide the best if we believe our pets worth something to us. And we choose what fits our lifestyles the best.

Pets are not like your techie gadget that should be taken as a moving fad or trend. A techie gadget may get obsolete in just a few months but your pets live for years. Let's not just jump into the bandwagon just because everyone's going into it.

Have your own brain to decide for yourself. Likewise the pet stores that you patronize.

And that brings me to the point of my post today. I recently heard of the most outrageous thing that I have ever come across thus far. There are actually people in this world questioning the reason certain pet stores selling stuff they know nearly nothing about.

Now we all know pet stores are businesses that exist due to the demand of customers. Customers with brain has decided that they need certain products and services. As the fundamentals of all businesses are based on the demand and supply model, pet stores are merely trying to meet the demands of customers. Not necessarily the pet store operators need to have extensive knowledge of the products and at the same time, we cannot take it against them for not knowing either although knowing can be a bonus to help in awareness. Furthermore, if there is no demand for a particular product, the manufacturers would not produce them right? Likewise, pet owners DO NOT buy everything under the sun unless they are filthy rich and has got nowhere else to spend their riches. There is always a line between WANT and NEED here too. At the end of the day, consumer decides based on their NEEDS regardless of what is recommended. There is no such thing as misleading or crap like that. Consumer have the money and power to decide. But if you are still hard headed and still want to believe in the misleading crap, then sue all manufacturers so that no more products sold in pet stores, we'll have nothing to buy for our pets and you should know what happens next (THINK)!

We have to stay focus on the reason as to why pet stores exist. A pet store is not a place where you find for your regular lingerie or your favorite instant noodles. A pet store sells PET PRODUCTS! If they do not, I don't think they are called pet stores. So stop questioning why they carry certain product just because they have no knowledge on it. If you know more about the product, good for you and many more should know about it and DECIDE if they NEED it!

YES, this seemed to be very contradicting coming from me. That is because I believe we should stop spoon feeding so that everyone uses their brains to think. Think for themselves that is. That is because the herding mentality is causing too much problem in the pet business world. Too many blind followers with a few blind leaders.

And also, as our market provider stays ignorant, consumers are still required to exercise their own discretion to decide. Since that is the way it has always been and still is, the best thing to do is to depend on our own God given natural talent which is to.........THINK FOR OURSELVES!

Thus, your brain moves you or you move your brain?

As for my fellow rabbit lovers, if you still believe in my recommendations, please continue following for the best of all rabbits as should know by now that TLR is all about the best for our rabbits! You are welcome to combine your brains with mine. LOL!

Cats For Adoption

Let's move along into better things shall we? Something that gives life instead of dwelling in the culture of death.

I know this has nothing to do with rabbits but cats are pets too. And TLR fights for a good cause as long it is for our pets.

Our good friends over at Pet Epicure always have neutered cats available for adoption at very minimal fee. If you support the cause of responsible pet ownership, please feel free to go through their weblog at http://petepicure.com, their facebook group , contact them or just walk-in as and when you like during their business hours.

Choose Life, Choose Adopt & Give Life!

The Cult Called Pets

Many people sacrifices a lot for pets. So much so that they become obsessed. To treat one's pet well is a very good thing. But to be over obsessed with one's pet business is definitely weird. We have tons of pet stores and retails in Malaysia. Some are online businesses and some have their own operating premises. All of these stores have their fans. I realized some have gone over religious about their idol store.

Today I received a very nasty comment on one of the post I did for Noobie that went as follows:

Classy as in what then? Care to tell more?

J & J in LYN are far more concerned to pets’ wellbeings, more than the PROFIT some Chinchilla owner claim to earn by his knowlegde OR is it from stealing other people’s idea??

Ask urself, have u heard from both party? DUMBASS!!

So any comment then?

Don't you think that this is so darn rude? But anyhow, I learn many things from this comment. And here is what I think:

1. The commenter has low EQ

2. He/she hates Chinchillas (I don't know why someone can hate them so much as they are super cute)

3. He/she is religiously and fanatically in love with the alphabet J, the character & and the alphabet J. Collectively known as J&J

4. He/she loves calling people names

As you can see, certain religions have restrictions and for this person, his or her religion forbids anyone from writing about J&J and the one that particularly includes LYN. So my dear fellow bloggers, please refrain from using J&J and LYN in your posting.

And for the record, the other J&J I know beside the one that took in Noobie are good friends of mine who resides in Melbourne. And the other J&J I know work very hard to build their business. And by these people coming and leaving rude remarks on my blog, they are helping the J&J that they are so religiously in love with lose their business by tons. If theirs is a "gangster-style" business, I am keeping my distance whoever J&J that he/she is referring to!

Lastly, I think all religion teaches us to be good. Let's not make Pets a cult alright? It is not worth it. Mind your own fur biz please....

Truffles: Skor Jr.

Don't he look so similar to his dad, Skor? To me he is the exact copy of Skor. Seemed as though I placed Skor into a copier and out came Truffles! LOL!

And did I tell you that I hate taking photos of black and white rabbits? They always seemed blur. And it is very difficult to see the rabbit's eyes.

I believe I made the right choice for holding on to Truffles as he seemed to be a potential replacement for Skor.

Congratulations to all winners!

Holland Lop Nationals 2009 just ended over the weekend at York, PA. I am one of those that was not able to attend (due to the distance of course!) but am still very interested to know what happened especially on the winners. As usual, I have been following my personal favorites and I am please to know that Scott Rodriguez's Ivy Crescent Tabitha took #1 for the BSD (Broken Senior Doe) group. Dan's Nadia came #2 in that same group. Dan's Corley won Best Opposite Sex Of Breed (BOS). Click here and here for photo.

Mind you, Holland Lop Nationals is where the BEST OF THE BEST of the entire US come together to compete and even getting placed is a very big thing! These are the top lops for 2009 out of thousands of entries.

Congratulations to the both of them and also to all winners!

Holly Hope: Everyone's Favorite

Holly Hope is just making a comeback after a heavy molt. She is very small compared to the rest of the herd. The smallest I must say. I believe she is the same size as Truffles. LOL!

This is the first time I ever that I have caught the true lilac color on Holly Hope. Having a DSLR really makes a difference. Do you notice the reddish tone on her?

Seychel is definitely pet quality and to top it off, she is in the 'UGLIES' stage and going through a molt. The only thing I like about this girl is her color.
